infrastructure services

portland slag cement- Its Really better, Try it

Suitable for road, ports, tunnels and river portland slag cement is used all across for its ecological value. With the rising consciousness with respect to diminishing natural resources, the construction industry has shifted their focus to using eco friendly material than harnessing core natural resources. Technology and technical knowledge has enable land contractors to make use of blast furnace slag from steel, which is undoubtedly effective in controlling pollution and making environment safer, and secure. Today maximum infrastructure services are completed using slag cement instead of ordinary Portland cement. Slag cement is known as ‘greener cement’ as it is nature permissive.

Core benefits of using slag cement
·         Now slag cement is ordained to end in disposal but today it is deemed as one of the finest value-added product from a blast furnace slag. Slag cement comes with two benefits one it lessens the load on landfills second it diminishes air emissions at steel plants by involving the core granulation procedure. You can make use of slag cement in concrete thus lessening the ecological impact of concrete.
·         Now while enumerating other benefits, this portland slag cement will effectively be reducing greenhouse gas emissions by lessening down one ton of carbon-di-oxide, as this slag cement needs less energy so it reduces energy consumption quite effectively. It again reduces the quantity of virgin materials which are dug out to make concrete.
·         Making the construction lighter in color, this material reduces the urban heat island effect. so this material is wonderful for exposed concretes and pavements. Even the Environmental Protection Agency acknowledges the environmental advantages of using the slag cement in concrete. Even the Resource Conservation Recovery Act (RCRA) has recognized this product as the recovered product
What is slag cement used for
Slag cement is extensively used in exposed concrete as one of the separated cementitious component, often it is used as one of integral component while blending cement. Working together with portland cement, slag cement works synergistically to enhance strength, potency thus reducing permeability, enhancing resistance to chemical attack and restraining rebar deterioration. Slag cement is exploited  in literally all concrete applications, while making concrete pavements, foundations, structures, dams and retaining walls, mass concrete applications, for pre cast and pretressed concrete, pipe and block, when concrete is exposed to the harsh elements of nature for example wastewater treatment and marine applications. They are high strength and high performing concrete and provides years long service to bridges or high-rise structures. Slag cement can be  used in non-concrete application for example soil-cement and perilous waste solidification.
Why you should use PSC
The intrinsic chemistry offers manifold benefits over ordinary cement and the most important advantage is, it comes within budget. Although it is identified as one of the finest eco friendly items of all but builders today make use of this material for their Ultimate compressive strength, Minimised shrinkage cracks, Low risk of cracking, Better compatibility with all types of admixtures, Improved workability, Excellent resistance to Chloride & Sulphate attacks, Superior finish, Better resistance against alkali-silica reaction and Ease of pumping.

Blended Cements

A Glimpse on Qualities of Blended Cements

“Home is where heart is”. Our home is a place where we live, share, laugh, cry, celebrate and experience different phases of our lives. Wherever we go, but coming back home is gives us a sense of security and satisfaction. We all want to gift our loved ones a secure place. Life has become a risk now, increasing population and high risk of earthquakes has made life insecure. Hence, it is essential to choose the proper material for your house so that your loved ones could live without strain.
In the market of materials needed for home making, cement plays an important role. It is the key material and should be chosen wisely. Technically talking, cement is a binder which can bind other material together. It is a mixture of limestone and clay. It is a fine mineral powder manufactured with very precise processes. When submerged with water, it hardens and binds the material used with it.

Types of Cement Grades-
With the various uses of cements, there are a variety of them which can be used. Different types of cements are-
·         Gray Ordinary Portland Cement- mainly composed of clinker.
·         White Portland Cement-composed of limestone and kaolin clay
·         Masonry or Mortar- mainly used for brick work
·         Oil-Well Cement- applicable for different depth, chemical aggression or pressure levels.
·         Blended Cement- composed of pozzolans, fly ash, and silica fume.
Specifically here we discuss about Blended Cements-
Blendedcement is obtained by mixing Portland cement with mineral admixtures or additives like fly ash, slag or silica fumes. Blended cements have many advantages on ordinary Portland cement and are now-a-days considered to be superior. Presently in India about 30% of the total production is blended cement. In UK and USA, the usage of blended cement is nearly 90% of total production.

Advantages of Blended Cement-
Blended Cements
·         Blended cement reduces water demand thereby reducing the water-cement ratio.
·         Workability is improved.
·         Blended cements are considered to be finer than OPC (ordinary Portland cement).
·         Permeability of concrete is less which improves durability.
Apart from the technical advantages, blended cement also has environmental advantages.
·         Saves Energy- blended cements are mineral admixtures with OPC hence the energy which would have otherwise been utilized for production of OPC, is saved. The saving is up to 0.8 to 1.2 MWH/ton of cement.
·         Natural Resources are Conserved- blended cements use admixtures, which are the waste products of thermal and steel plant. By using these, we are conserving silica, limestone and cay.
·         Controls Pollution- It has been estimated that 7% of the total pollution is only due to cement production. As blended cement reduces the production of cement up to a level, hence it controls pollution.

Penna Cement-
One of the most famous and trusted brand of cement is Penna Cement, founded in 1991. Located in Hyderabad, this brand receives demand of cements from small house owners to real state dealers. They have grown organically by developing in-house expertise across entire value chain in the cement industry. At Penna, they believe in building quality relationships.
So if you are one of those in line to build up your house, do consider the cements you use and the brand you choose.
